Thinking of a Practice Away Day?
Practice away days are potentially very educational for the individual as well as team building for the practice. In the past, the Southampton GP Tutor team has funded professional facilitation for such days to help with the process. Whilst some of that expertise is still available (please contact the office if you wish to discuss that further), we are able to offer some financial assistance to practices undertaking away days if they meet the following criteria:
1. They have a programme for the day with educational objectives.
2. The programme meets the criteria for “education accreditation” and an application is submitted.

3. The GP Principals or Sessional GPs involved are members of the Wessex GP Educational Trust. (Obviously not everyone in every practice is a member of the Trust but if the majority of the GPs attending an away day are then the funding may be available)
If all the above criteria are met, then under these circumstances it is possible to obtain some funding from the Wessex GP Educational Trust on behalf of the members, which would go towards some of the educational costs of the day.
So if example you are undertaking an away day with structured accredited educational activity it is possible to have funding towards that process up to £8.00 per hour, per GP, who is a full member of the Wessex GP Educational Trust, under scheme B (the final figure will depend on the costs involved).
This is just another example of the diversity of support that we are trying to provide for individuals and practices to develop their education.
