The Educational Agenda is based in part upon the outcome of the form for the appraisals which every GP either Principal or Sessional Doctor within Southampton will undertake. Obviously in addition to this, educational events are put on in response to individual's requests and intermittent educational needs analysis. We are always very happy to receive suggestions for educational events and these can be sent to the GP Course Administrator, Rose Debell, by e-mail rose.debell@suht.swest.nhs.uk or alternatively you can call Rose on 023 8079 6579
Educational Accreditation: Since 1st April 2004 there has been no need for courses to be accredited for PGEA purposes. Since that time the GP Tutors in Wessex have developed two schemes to improve the quality of education within Wessex. The First Scheme - Non-Practice based education for all individual events There is an application form which looks at the aims and objectives of the course. The application process aims to ensure that courses are of a quality standard and certificates of that quality will be issued to participants. Independent evaluation may be undertaken by the GP Tutor team or on their behalf of such events to ensure the quality is maintained. A yearly database of quality events attended will be available for all people in the Southampton area who sign the registers at such events. The Second Scheme - Practice Based Educational Accreditation Scheme (P.E.A.S) This is a scheme set up to try and help practices become learning organisations and improve the quality of their education. It is also there to empower them to run their own courses with the quality being underwritten by the GP Educational Team. Details of this are available both with worked examples of the application form, the process for applying and the on-going data collection. Funding is available to practices meeting certain criteria.
