Out of Hours Information
All GP Trainees are required to undertake GP Out of Hours clinical work and training for final certification by the RCGP throughout the whole 3 year training programme.  This includes emergency and unscheduled work both during the normal working week and in an Out of Hours situation as appropriate in all training posts.

It is the GP Trainee's responsibility to arrange Out of Hours sessions with appropriate providers.  GP ST2 Trainees in GP slots should have exposure to a varied range of Out of Hours, however, there is no requirement to undertake a clinical role in or for the GP on-call Out of Hours service.

GPST2 Trainees should complete 36 hours of Out of Hours experience in the 6 month GP Post, this will be in a supervised capacity and trainees will not be expected to work independently.

Further information can be found in the Wessex Deanery Out of Hours Guidelines (Aug 2010), please follow the link below:

http://www.wessexdeanery.nhs.uk/docs/WESS_GP_OOH_guide_Aug%202010%20(V2).doc

The Deanery has produced a new OOH learning and record log

which must be used for all GP On-call sessions in the ST1/2 & ST3 years (it is not required for the Specialty Hospital on-call sessions but these should still be documented in the e-Portfolio as appropriate).

Each session must now be recorded on this record sheet, checked and countersigned either by your Clinical / Educational Supervisor or GP Trainer before being scanned into the e-Portfolio.
