Approval & Reapproval Visits |
|
To become a trainer in Wessex it is necessary for you to complete and pass the modular prospective trainers course, 3 University of Winchester assignments and attend the four half days of the new trainers course.
In additon, prior to being allocated a GP learner you will need an approval visit, which consists of the Associate Dean or his deputy, a visiting trainer, a GP learner (FY2, ST1,2 or 3) and frequently a lay visitor, who come to your surgery for approximately half a day. Once approved you will need to undergo a re-approval visit, by a team with a similar delegation, after a learner has been with you for 10 months or so.
The purpose of the visit is for 'Quality assurance of training' but also for development of the trainers.
The visit lasts between 3 and 4.5 hours, depending on how many trainers need approval/reapproval. The visiting team will arrive at 9am for the morning visits or 1.30pm for afternoon visits. We would like to interview the learners (F2/ST1,2 or 3) at the beginning of the visit, so please make them available for about half an hour. Following that we would like to see all the trainers together, and the practice manager if possible, for the remainder of the visit. During the visit a tour of the building will be requested, and a video of teaching will be viewed for all trainers.
The video is a developmental part of the visit, so please prepare a clip of teaching, no longer than 5 minutes, where you would like some help in how to develop what has been recorded. Please make sure all the equipment is available to watch and hear the clip.
Many thanks
